Sudha Murthy (also spelled Murty; née Kulkarni on 19 August 1950) is an Indian social worker and writer in the Kannada and English languages. Murthy began her professional career as a computer scientist and engineer. Sudha Murthy was born in Shiggaon in Karnataka, India. The daughter of a famous surgeon Dr. R.H. Kulkarni, Murthy and her siblings were raised by her parents and maternal grandparents. These childhood experiences form the historical basis for her first notable work entitled ''How I Taught my Grandmother to Read & Other Stories''.〔(About Mrs. Narayan Murthy ).
